There's a small accommodation in Geraldton, which I help run. The owner is one of my dearest friends, and she was away on an adventure -this time to America.
She gave me a big chance when I was younger, and now, I help give her breaks, in the form of running the show while she takes a breather. But my breather happens to be coming back to town. When you hit the stretch of road that gives you clear view of the silos in the distance, and the dozy feeling of nothing changes as you drive through ghost memory streets.
I love that.
But there's a nostalgia that comes with the refinding of places - Of new memories inhabiting the places of old memories. The new home of Quiet Life Specialty Coffee has lived other lives as a hairdresser and small artists store. On the outskirts of the central hub with a view that gazes directly at port, the beautiful building is a sprawl of grapevines and stone mortar. Layla and Reece, who run the show, know their coffee, And after several years of barista work in the UK they're back in their hometown, bringing that love and hardwon experience to that very same dozy place.
With ample seating (Except in the morning rush!), an awesome breakfast menu and decent opening hours, Quiet Life is a catch up zone and a daydreaming place - I've already spent far too long sitting inside, and abusing their water supplies for my paints. In a building and town cluttered with memory, this cafe brings both the old, and a fresh new.
You can find them here on Facebook, posting their beautiful coffee photography and updates.
